New cases – Failure of a Member State to fulfil obligations

Trend between 2014 and 2019

On average, since 2014 around 43 of the new cases involving the Court of Justice involve member states who are unable to comply with community law. In 2019 new cases were 35. Decreasing respect to the previous two years.

The European court of justice may impose financial sanctions against Member states when failing to fulfill specific obligations.
